- Having been in touch with a descendant of Thomas Locke, they advise me his name and date of birth come from a Family Bible.
However like myself they find no evidence of his birth in St Albans, Hertfordshire.
From experience what is written in a family bible is not always correct, families view it as gospel because their ancestors wrote it ?
The bible was purchased in 1814 so all entry's are after the fact.
Also worth noting if this is his date of birth any baptism could be much later.
There is also a civil parish of St Albans in Nottinghamshire.
But alas not found here either.

DNA Analysis of 3 different branches of Locke match Lockwood's from West Yorkshire.
BIGY testing is needed from these Branches to determine exactly when in time they are related.
Lockwood's have lived in the Huddersfield & Holmfirth area of West Yorkshire for over 800 years - I suspect any relationship with the Locke branch is possibly from the 1100 - 1200's however a BIGY test would tell everyone exactly.
The STR markers for Locke appear to be more in line with Armitage of West Yorkshire.
While initially I was interested in the name as it was similar to Lockwood it is more likely the Locke Branch will be closer related to Armitage another family from West Yorkshire.
Lockwood & Armitage share the same common ancestor via a man who lived c.1048 [estimated].
This is a Scandinavian Cluster considered to be Anglo Saxon, via DNA testing it may also be considered these Branches entered the British Isles via France with William the Conquerer [more BIGY being done and more needed].
The Locke men and the Administrators of the Locke DNA project have been approached more than once asking Locke's to upgrade to BIGY and the Lockwood & Armitage DNA Projects have offered to pay for this upgrade.
Any Locke who can prove descent via these Branches can access FREE DNA tests via the Armitage DNA Project.
