      • Notes: 15/08/2008

Finding Henry Inman is very difficult and I doubt I will be able to say with any accuracy wether my findings below are him or not.

We first know of Henry Inman when he Marry's Ellen Leeming in 1869 it says on his marriage cert he is age 26 = c.1843 & his father was William Inman a Farmer.

In the 1871 Census he is age 27 = c.1844 place of birth Tadcaster.
In the 1881 Census he is age 41 = c.1840 place of birth Malton.
In the 1891 Census he is age 51 = c.1840 place of birth Malton.
in the 1901 Census he is age 62 = c.1839 place of birth Malton.

Death Certificate in 1923 he is age 84 = c.1839.

I believe this is him below however I can not find a birth certificate for him.
In the 1861 Census he is age 22 = c.1839 a Carter from Halton. He is a servant in Bramham which is near Tadcaster.

I was unsure about Halton when I first saw it I did think it was the way Malton had been spelt, but now believe from looking in other Censi and other Inman Family's it is Great Habton near Malton also place of births for other Inmans come back as Kirkby Misperton near Pickering. Great Habton was in the district of Kirkby Misperton.

I can not find Henry in the 1851 Census.

1841 Census I can find a Henry Inman in Great Habton age 2 = c.1839 with the following........
Jane Inman Farmer born in Yorkshire age 65.
Thomas Inman born in Yorkshire age 25.
Elizabeth Inman born in Yorkshire age 25.
Henry Inman born in Yorkshire age 2

I believe Jane Inman died in Dec 1845 Malton 9d 243 Death cert not yet obtained.

At first I thought Jane was the Mother Thomas & Elizabeth are husband and wife & Henry their son but looking at other Inman Census from this area I am now unsure and wonder if Thomas & Elizabeth are brother & sister and Henry a Grandchild from another Inman Son. At the moment i just can not make up my mind.

However in Kirkby Misperton there is a baptism 21/03/1839 Henry Inman son of Elizabeth so is Elizabeth his mother and is the name of father on our marriage cert just to save face.?

No one from this family unit are either also not found in the 1851 Census or are linked to another Great Habton family or just not easy to pinpoint.

The 1861 Census then throw up more complications I have an Ellis Inman in Walton which is near Tadcaster & Bramham with 3 unmarried children and a Thomas Inman who is stated to be Brother. But this Thomas Inman fits the age and place of birth for the 1841 census family?

Notes: on Ellis Inman I believe this to be a brother even thoe it says Widow on 1861 & the name Ellis Is crossed out in the 1871 and Replaced with Alice?

It states Ellis is born in Burythorpe which is also on the other side of Malton.

An Ellis Inman age 73 =c.1802 dies in Sept 1875 Wetherby 9a 82.

There is also another Thomas Inman who could also be the Thomas in 1841 age 43 =c.1818 Great Habton a brother John resides also.

The reason I am edging towards the Walton family as this fits in with Henry Inman's movements.? place of Tadcaster in 1871 Census.

Thomas is with Nephew John in the 1871 Census.
