      Notes
      • Parish Records for Pateley Bridge are very poor, we also see families using Kirkby Malzeard, Masham, Middlesmoor & Ripon.

There are a lot of Quaker's and Clandestine Marriages in the area..... after 10 years of research I still am unable via any means to prove early parts of the BROOKS tree but can with some confidence identify two branches.

One going to Moorhouse, Long Green Head & Bewerley mainly farmers & another Branch mainly found in Pateley Bridge and being Weavers in the early 1800's

DNA has been conducted between 2 different branches of Brooks and show they are indeed related however the traditional paper trail and early conclusion I made in 2004 has possibly been proven wrong. Since 2004 I have traced many branches from Bewerley looking for another Male to test but I have not found any branches with Males still living and in 10 years of this tree being published on the Internet not one BROOKS from this family has ever contacted me.

In 2004 I also found that my Mothers 3x Great Grandmother was Margaret Brooks who married Roger Leeming I have tried in vain to prove her connection to my father David Brooks but this link is the best guess I can make and that is 4th Cousin 5x removed so my Mum & Dad are seperated related at 11 generations making them 9th Cousins.

However this is far from proven but a best guess estimate. - I have conducted Autosomal testing on 2 branches of the BROOKS family and also a branch of the Leeming family neither share Autosomal DNA that match which indicates they must be related by more than 5 generations & the YDNA match of the BROOKS family also indicate their Most Recent Common Ancestor is around 12 Generations.
