- 1871 Census George says he was born in Sarawak Borneo - and it is this source I use for his Birth.
However it is disputed and that he was born in England I have made possible suggestions to the family where and who to he was born but no member of the family has given me positive proof of this yet.
I do however agree with the family that he was born in England & once positive identification is made and a Parish Record is provided I will make changes to the database - but my source of 1871 census must stand till this happens.

- Descendants of George Brooke are from the J - Haplogroup.
Even amongst descendants of George it is disputed despite the written evidence that James Brooke was actually his father.
Becasue there are no more BROOKE males to test YDNA from James Brooke there is no way of knowing for sure.
Johnson 'Brooke' descendants have also denied this claim in the past stating it is a work of fiction to hide possible other implications.
One of the Johnson descendants has however been very kind to the descendants of George Brooke and has tried to help them.
Via AT DNA there is no DNA match which can provide evidence there is a Genetic relationship.
However in some cases as the test is random and the current relationship via different members of the BROOKE family falls into a range of 6th 5th and 4th cousin there is a chance no match would be seen anyway however Ancestry has lowered its matching threshold and I am suprised there is no match at all.
If the BROOKE tree is correct and James Brooke is a descendant of the BROOK found in Almondbury then I would have expected a DNA match coming from one of the Yorkshire Branches of BROOK of which there are many non of which carry the J - Haplogroup ?
Future research needs to positively identify other possible lines coming from James Brook Ancestors and obtain YDNA tests via the BROOKS Surname YDNA Project at FTDNA.
There are many BROOK families alive today with Ancestors in West Yorkshire I encourage them to please consider doing YDNA and helping to link some of the many Yorkshire trees together where traditional records fail.
